Norfolk Greyhound Rescue

Norfolk Greyhound Rescue is a small not for profit organisation (charity status being applied for).

Their main aim is to find caring humans to rehome Irish Greyhound-ex racers and those that never made it to the track. This is because there are literally thousands of dogs that either don’t make the grade, or are simply discarded once they are no longer suitable for racing. Sadly many meet a sad end.

The dogs live in foster care before they are offered for rehoming so that their personalities can be assessed. This enables the organisation to match up the right dog to the right family.

Most of the dogs will not have lived in the home environment before so can be wary of everything they meet, ie traffic, tv noise, stairs, meeting some other dogs, busy places etc.

If your human has experience of owning a dog they may be able to rehome one of Norfolk Greyhound Rescue dogs.  The dogs come in many shapes and sizes and there are lots of gorgeous greyhounds waiting for their forever home……………….

Norfolk Greyhound Rescue are looking for people to help by offering a foster home for a greyhound as a ‘half-way-home’ until they can find a permanent home. They will cover the costs and provide expert support and advice.

Adopting a greyhound gives it a new lease of life; a life of comfort, fuss and security and everyone will be rewared tenfold by their calm and kind nature.

All prospective fosterers and adopters will need to be home checked. Here’s just some of the lovely doggies looking for loving new homes:-

rylo 2

Rylo is a stunning 2yr old Black Boy. Currently living in a foster home with 2 other greyhounds and a Jack Russell. A very affectionate chap who loves his ear rubs.
Brilliant on the lead and loves his walks.

Most greyhounds are happy with just two 30 minute walks a day, although some will enjoy a longer walk.

Follow Norfolk Greyhound Rescue on Facebook where you can see what they are up to, meet the hounds available for rehoming and discover what events they are hosting.

I am looking to adopt a rescue greyhound. I live in Hemsby, Norfolk and have 4 daughters aged 8,9,10 and 26. I am divorced and work 3 days a week at the girls’ school as a dinner lady. We are right on the seafront with lots of doggy owner pals and have been wanting a greyhound for a very long time. My children are kind and love dogs and we regularly babysat my sister’s black lab, Mojo until sadly he died last year. I have owned a golden Labrador and a springer in the past and we currently have a hamster called Jeff. I have always had Siamese and oriental cats, but sadly My last Siamese, Jasmine died of comfortable old age, 2 years ago my parents used to breed Burmese cats. We are animal lovers with a huge amount of love and time to give to a greyhound as a welcome 5th family member. I’m a little rusty so open to any advice and would welcome a home check. My 10 year old Natasha is very slightly autistic and experiences great joy when loved by, and loving an animal. She was very attached to my ex-mother in law’ cocker, Hayley. Please let me know your thoughts. Kind regards, Katy Slaughter. (Don’t let my surname put you off! I used to be a nurse and my dad is a vicar!)

    1. Hello Kay, Thank you for getting in touch. We will pass your details onto the Greyhound Rescue. Woofs Frodo
