People vote for the most dog friendly sites around the UK and with over 10,000 canine-canny establishments nominated the competition was always going to be very fierce. We are delighted to announce that both the Beach and the Cafe/Restaurant at Wells-Next-The-Sea on the North Norfolk coast have scooped the number 1 prize as Britain’s most dog friendly places, along with the Lacon Arms Pub, Hemsby.
Winner of the dog friendly cafe/restaurant award – Wells-next-the Sea Beach Cafe
We have always loved this cafe, but it has really excelled as a special dog friendly establishment under the management of Alan Miller. Alan and his team of staff are all great dog lovers – us dogs know when humans really like us! We are always guaranteed a genuine warm and friendly welcome and nothing is too much trouble. The cafe always has treats on offer (Yum!) and fresh water bowls. In addition they have ‘Wash N Wag’, a free bathing service that gets any sand or mud off us after our walkies on the beach or through the pine forrest. The Barking Bugle hosted our first ever Bark Up! at the cafe in October 2014 to great success and we will be repeating this in Spring 2015 – so watch this space!
Wells-next-the-Sea Beach – Winner of the dog friendly beach award
A double whammy for Wells-next-the-Sea, what with winning this award and the cafe as well. This is a beautiful sandy beach which is totally uncommercialised. You can run for miles and there is so much space it never feels crowded. Wells-next-the-sea beach adjoins Holkham Beach, famously known for its connections to royalty and as a location for films such as ‘Shakespeare in Love’ and ‘Full Metal Jacket’.

We have not visited this pub but as winners of the most dog friendly pub awards we will definitely be going! The landlords of the pub are totally delighted to have won this prestious award. “We could never exclude dogs – they are part of the family and we welcome families – furry or otherwise!”
