My brother Gizmo and I were really excited when our pawrents took us to the groomers for a pawticure! Was the pampering because we were going somewhere glamorous, maybe to sample some fine dining, go to a posh dog show or a pawty packed with celebrities? Was it heck!!
The next day we found ourselves heading off to Elton Park in Peterborough to take part in The Muddy Dog Challenge – the reason for the pawticure…so we didn’t bring too much mud into the house afterwards!
The event was to raise funds for Battersea Dogs and Cats Home and there have been several Muddy Dog Challenges across the UK in the last few months. The scene at Elton Park was quite grand and the weather was absolutely glorious. After arriving and booking in we did a short warm up routine before setting off on the 5km route.
We had to negotiate several obstacles, some very muddy ones indeed! There were two challenges at the beginning that only the humans were allowed to attempt, which was great as we watched our pawrents from the sidelines with much sniggering and giggling as they went slipping and sliding through the mud.
We went through twelve obstacles in all, crawling through tunnels, mazes, under mesh and even over a trampoline!
By the end we were covered in mud, mum and dad even more so, and we were all really stinky!
The whole event was very well organised by the teams of volunteers who helped out on the day. Everyone was very friendly and there was lots encouragement from the stewards. At the end lots of people cheered us over the finishing line where we received a medal along with a rosette, and we were then interviewed for the local press.
We would like to thank all those who sponsored us on the day. One of the organisers informed us that well over £61,000 was raised at this event alone! Pawesome!
We are already looking forward to the next one in 2019!
